Long days in the sun, surf and wind can lead to the misery of sunburn, and dry weathered looking skin.
Manuka honey is a great natural remedy to have on hand to ease skin that has been stressed from exposure to the elements.
The healing properties of 100% pure New Zealand Manuka honey are now well documented. It provides a unique combination of anti-inflammatory, hydrating and regenerative actions making it a time-honoured and scientifically proven natural remedy for skin care.
Manuka Honey for Sunburn
Applied to sunburnt skin Manuka honey quickly soothes and reduces redness and inflammation, stimulating cell renewal and helping restore and retain skin hydration by drawing moisture to skin cells.
Manuka Honey for Dry or Stressed Skin
The healing, hydrating and anti-inflammatory properties of Manuka honey also make it ideal for any dry or inflamed skin including eczema and psoriasis. It also has antibacterial properties when applied topically to help protect broken skin and target acne and spots (be sure to use high grade Manuka honey for this – look for methylglyoxal levels 400mg/kg or higher).
How to Apply
Simply apply a thin layer of Manuka honey to inflamed, dry or stressed skin and leave on for 30-60 minutes (even longer if you like). The honey rinses off easily with tepid water – don’t scrub or use hot water to avoid irritating your skin. Pat dry and apply a gentle moisturiser or skin oil if desired.
You should notice rapid relief. Keep applying the honey for a few days to maximise the restorative healing effects.
For long term skin care, continuing with a weekly Manuka Honey face mask is a wonderful regular skin treat – every time I do this I get a compliment about my skin!
