So you’ve had a great summer, but all that lovely sunshine, swimming and heat have left you with dry rough skin that looks somewhat worse for wear. If this sounds familiar keep reading, because I have discovered the best treatment for summer-stressed dry skin.

My skin was so dry despite daily slathering of sunscreen, serums, oils and moisturisers - I just couldn’t seem to moisturise enough. I still had rough dry patches on my cheeks and my skin looked dull and tired.  Clearly I needed something more.

And I found it in the pantry. Turns out Manuka Honey is a true skin saviour when applied as a face mask, once again proving that age-old natural remedies often do stack up.

I started applying Manuka Honey nightly as a face mask. Just spread a thin layer all over my face and left it for 30-60 minutes while I went about my business. After the very first use I couldn’t believe the difference – my skin was softer, plumper and truly did look more luminous. I was hooked. For the next few days I did a Manuka Honey face mask every night. As to be expected it is a bit sticky, but it washes off quickly and easily with water.  So easy, and such rapid results.

My skin is now free of rough, dry patches and has a sort of dewy radiance (if I may say so myself).  Even other people have noticed, commenting on how great my skin is looking. I also find that spots or blemishes quickly vanish without a trace.

I continue to do a weekly Manuka Honey mask as ‘maintenance’ (I’ve got it on right now in fact!), and simply wouldn’t be without it. I have upgraded to the ManukaClear™ Mask, which has been specially formulated for use as a face mask for dry skin and comes in a convenient tube,  easier than scooping out of a pot and great for travel.

The Science

But don’t just take my word for it, there has been a large amount of scientific research confirming the healing properties and skin-saving attributes of Manuka Honey. It is useful for topical application for many common skin conditions including eczema, acne and rosacea as it works in a number of ways to repair and restore the skin:

Honey is a humectant, meaning it can draw moisture to the skin cells for long-lasting hydration; and an emollient, providing a protective, softening and smoothing effect.

Manuka Honey stimulates natural skin repair and healing, and has an anti-inflammatory action to reduce inflammation and redness, and help prevent scarring.

Manuka Honey is well known for its unique topical antibacterial properties, and can rapidly combat spots and acne without drying or damaging the skin.
